Drive Axle Assembly Vehicle Option Codes – Ensure You Have the Right Part for Your Vehicle

You’ve probably heard the terms “RPO Code”
or “vehicle options list” used throughout the automotive industry but may be wondering
what they mean. Well, they’re identification codes that
are made up of numbers and/or letters that give highly detailed information regarding
what options or packages were installed on the vehicle at the time of production. You can find all of those codes listed on
the vehicle option code label. The most common placement of the label is
on the driver’s side front door jamb or in the glove box. Once you’ve located your label, you can
match up the codes with your application in our catalog to ensure you’re selecting the
right part for your vehicle. Let’s use Drive Axle Assemblies as an example. Selecting the correct replacement unit can
be confusing due to the varying configurations such as gear ratios, open end or posi type
center sections. But simply finding the right code eliminates
that confusion. In this case, we’re looking for the correct
drive axle assembly for a 2007 Ford F-150. The vehicle option code label is located here
on the door jam. The Cardone Vehicle Option Code Guide lists
the possible codes for this vehicle as 19, 26, 27, 32, B6, C2, H7 & H9. The code for this truck is 26, which tells
us we need to use a drive axle assembly with the 3.73 gear ratio. Different makes and models will have their
own style of vehicle option codes and labels, but the general idea stays the same. Using this system takes the guess work out
of finding the correct replacement unit, potentially saving you a lot of time and money in your
repair.
