How to replace front wheel bearing / front hub bearing on TOYOTA RAV 4 3 (XA30) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]


Required tools:
Wire brush
WD-40 spray
Copper grease Drive socket # 17
Drive socket # 18
Drive socket # 30
Wheel impact socket #21 Ratchet wrench
Torque wrench
Flat chisel
Tap wrench
Hammer Pin punch
Crow bar
Hydraulic transmission jack
Wheel chock 1. Clean the wheel hub fastener.
Use WD-40 spray. 2. Unstake the fastener of the driveshaft.
Use a pin punch.
Use a hammer. 3. Loosen the fastener of the driveshaft.
Use a drive socket #30.
Use a tap wrench. 4. Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. 5. Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #21. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. 6. Spread the brake pads.
Use a crowbar. 7. Clean the brake caliper bracket fasteners.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray. 8. Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening.
Use a drive socket #17.
Use a tap wrench. 9. Remove the caliper bracket AUTODOC recommends:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system. 10. Clean the brake disc fasteners.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray. 11. Remove the brake disc. 12. Clean the fasteners connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray. 13. Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm.
Use a drive socket #17. 14. Disconnect the spherical joint from the arm.
Use a crowbar. 15. Unscrew the fastener connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub.
Use a drive socket #30.
Use a tap wrench. 16. Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint.
Use WD-40 spray. 17. Remove the drive shaft.
Use a pin punch.
Use a hammer. AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked). 18. Prop up the steering knuckle.
Use a hydraulic transmission jack. 19. Clean the fasteners of the wheel hub bearing.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray. 20. Unscrew the hub bearing mounting.
Use a drive socket #17.
Use a tap wrench. 21. Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
Use a crowbar.
Use a hammer. 22. Clean the hub bearing mounting seat.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray. 23. Install the new wheel hub with a bearing. 24. Tighten the wheel hub bearing fasteners.
Use a drive socket #17.
Use a ratchet wrench. 25. Tighten the fastener of the wheel hub bearing.
Use a drive socket #17.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 85 nm torque. 26. Treat the splines of the driveshaft CV joint.
Use copper grease. 27. Remove the support from under the steering knuckle. AUTODOC recommends:
Lower the hydraulic transmission jack smoothly, without jerks, to avoid damaging assemblies and mechanisms. 28. Mount the drive shaft into the wheel hub. 29. Attach the ball joint to the control arm.
Use a crowbar. 30. Screw the fasteners of the ball joint.
Use a drive socket #17. 31. Tighten the ball joint fastener.
Use a drive socket #17.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 65 nm torque. 32. Treat the hub where it contacts the brake disk.
Use copper grease. 33. Install the brake disc. 34. Clean the mounting seats of the caliper and its bracket.
Use a wire brush.
Use WD-40 spray. 35. Install the brake caliper bracket. 36. Tighten the brake caliper bracket.
Use a drive socket #18.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 75 nm torque. 37. Screw the nut of the drive shaft.
Use a drive socket #30.
Use a tap wrench. 38. Clean the brake disk surface.
Use a wire brush. 39. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim.
Use copper grease. 40. Screw in the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #21. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts. 41. Lower the car. 42. Tighten the drive shaft nut.
Use a drive socket #30.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 135 nm torque. 43. Restake the fastener of the driveshaft.
Use a flat metal-working chisel.
Use a hammer. 44. Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
