How to replace front wheel bearing / front hub bearing on VW GOLF 6 (5K1) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]


Required tools:
Wire brush
WD-40 spray Copper grease
Drive socket # 15
Drive socket # 21 12-point socket # 24
XZN socket bit # 12
Torx bit T30 Wheel impact socket #17
Ratchet wrench
Torque wrench Tap wrench
Crow bar
Rubber mallet Hydraulic transmission jack
Wheel chock 1. Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. 2. Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #17. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. 3. Remove the hub bearing protection cap. 4. Screw in the wheel bolts.

To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts. 5. Loosen the wheel hub bolt. Use drive 12-point socket #24.
Use a tap wrench. 6. Unscrew the wheel bolts. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. 7. Spread the brake pads.
Use a crowbar. 8. Unscrew the caliper bracket fastening.
Use a drive socket #21. Use a ratchet wrench.
Use a tap wrench. 9. Remove the brake caliper together with its bracket. AUTODOC recommends:
Tie the caliper to the suspension or to the body with a wire without disconnecting from the brake hose to prevent depressurization of the brake system. Make sure that the brake caliper is not hanging on the brake hose. Don’t press the brake pedal after the brake caliper has been removed. As a result, the piston can fall out from the brake cylinder, and brake fluid leakage and depressurization of the system may occur. 10. Unscrew the brake disc fastening
Use Torx T30. Use a ratchet wrench. 11. Remove the brake disc. 12. Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut.
Use drive 12-point socket #24. 13. Clean the hub.
Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. 14. Remove the drive shaft from the wheel hub. AUTODOC recommends:
Make sure that the drive shaft is not unloaded (when the car is jacked). 15. Unscrew the fastener connecting the ball joint to the suspension control arm. Use a drive socket #15.
Use a ratchet wrench. 16. Disconnect the lower arm from the steering knuckle.
Use a crowbar. 17. Prop up the steering knuckle.
Use a hydraulic transmission jack. 18. Unscrew the wheel hub axle nut.
Use XZN #12. Use a ratchet wrench.
Use a tap wrench. 19. Remove the hub and the bearing together, since they are a sealed unit.
Use a crowbar. AUTODOC recommends:
If necessary, use a rubber mallet. 20. Clean the hub bearing mounting seat.
Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. 21. Install the new wheel hub with a bearing. 22. Tighten the hub.
Use XZN #12. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 70 Nm torque. 23. Clean the splines of the drive shaft CV joint.
Use WD-40 spray. 24. Mount the drive shaft into the
wheel hub. 25. Attach the ball joint to the control arm. 26. Tighten the ball joint fastening nut.
Use a drive socket #15. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 55 Nm torque. 27. Apply some copper grease to the hub where it contacts the brake disk. 28. Install and tighten the drive shaft bolt.
Use drive 12-point socket #24. 29. Install the brake disc. 30. Tighten the brake disc fastening.
Use Torx T30. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 9 Nm torque. 31. Install the brake caliper together with its bracket. 32. Tighten the brake caliper bracket.
Use a drive socket #21. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 65 Nm torque. 33. Clean the wheel rim mounting seat.
Use a wire brush. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease. 34. Screw in the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #17. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts. 35. Lower the car. 36. Tighten the bolt connecting the drive shaft to the wheel hub. Use drive 12-point socket #24.
Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 80 Nm torque. 37. Tighten the wheel bolts using a criss-cross pattern. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 120 Nm torque.
