How to replace tie rod end blades / window tie rod end on TOYOTA RAV 4 3 (XA30) [TUTORIAL AUTODOC]


Required tools:
Wire brush
WD-40 spray
Copper grease Combination spanner #21
Combination spanner #22
Drive socket # 17
Wheel impact socket #21 Ratchet wrench
Torque wrench
Tap wrench
Flat Screwdriver Round-nose pliers
Vernier caliper
Crow bar Rubber mallet
Ball joint puller
Wheel chock 1. Raise the front of the car and secure on supports. 2. Unscrew the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #21. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when unscrewing the bolts. 3. Clean the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a wire brush. Use WD-40 spray. 4. When deinstalling, mark or measure the precise position of the ball joint on the track rod, or count the number of turns in order to prevent misalignment afterward. Use a vernier caliper. 5. Remove the cotter pin fixing the tie rod end fastening.
Use a flat screwdriver. Use round-nose pliers. Use a crowbar. 6. Unscrew the end fastening nut to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a tap wrench. 7. Loosen the lock nut securing the tie rod end to the tie rod. Use a combination spanner #21.
Use a combination spanner #22. 8. Disconnect the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
Use a ball joint puller. Use a rubber mallet. 9. Screw the end out of the tie rod. 10. Clean the mounting seats of the tie rod end.
Use a wire brush. 11. Treat the mounting seats of the tie rod end.
Use copper grease. 12. Screw on a new tie rod end. AUTODOC recommends:
While installing the steering rod end remember to make the same number of turns or to leave the same length of thread showing as per your measurements 13. Connect the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. 14. Screw on the fastening nut that connects the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a ratchet wrench. 15. Tighten the tie rod end locknut.
Use a combination spanner #21. Use a combination spanner #22.
Use a torque wrench. Tighten it to 50 nm torque. 16. Tighten the fastening nut connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use a drive socket #17. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 55 nm torque. 17. Install the cotter pin fixing the tie rod end fastening. 18. Treat the fastener connecting the tie rod end to the steering knuckle. Use copper grease. 19. Clean the wheel rim mounting seat.
Use a wire brush. 20. Treat the surface where the brake disc contacts the wheel rim. Use copper grease. 21. Screw in the wheel bolts.
Use wheel impact socket #21. AUTODOC recommends:
To avoid injury, hold up the wheel when screwing in the fastening bolts. 22. Lower the car and working in a cross order, tighten the wheel bolts. Use a torque wrench.
Tighten it to 120 nm torque. AUTODOC recommends:
Check and adjust wheel alignment if necessary.
