Washer Repair- Replacing the Agitator Cam Kit (Whirlpool Part# 285809)

Hi, it’s Steve from PartSelect. Today we’re
going to show you how to change the Agitator Cam Kit on your washer, really easy job. All
we are going to need is a 7/16 socket with an extension. Let me show you how it’s done.
Now the easiest way to replace the cam kit is to remove the agitator completely from
the washer. So, we’ll start by removing the fabric softener dispenser, reach in remove
the cap barrier and seal, it’s just a friction fit, remove that and set it aside. That will
expose the 7/16’s bolt that we need to remove. Grasp the base of the agitator with that bolt
studded, completely unthread that bolt and grasp the base of the agitator and pull upwards,
now remove it from the agitator shaft. Now, the top portion of this agitator will
come off of the bottom, sometimes they are a little stiff and you may need to hold the
bottom down and have somebody else pull the top up or simply set it on the floor and pop
it off. Cam kit is located inside this portion, it should drop right out. It consists of a
bearing, cam holder and four individual cams. Take our new holder, install all the cams,
and there is a raised portion on these that needs to face upwards, simply insert all of
those into the appropriate slots, slide the bearing over top of it, and it’s notched
out to mate with the holder. Ready to reinstall this in the top portion
of our agitator barrel. It’s probably easiest to hold it upright and slide the barrel over
it. Center it in hole, and we’re ready to install that piece on the agitator base. There
are four taps that will line up with the new holder, so we’ll just eye that through the
top and reach in and press that holder until the tabs protrude through the slots, and we’re
ready to install the agitator back in the washer. Reinstall that 7/16’s bolt; be sure not
to over tighten it. Next we’ll put our barrier cap and seal back in and you could find that
seal starts to roll up on the barrier, just moisten it with some water or some dishwasher
detergent. Snap it in place, and just give a little tug to make sure that you have it
in properly, reinstall the fabric softener dispenser. And our repair is complete. That’s
how easy it is to change the agitator cam kit on your washer. Thanks for watching and
good luck with your repair.
